Our remarkable Story
Our story began in 2015 when we founded The MY PLACE GROUP and subsequently our most successful brand, The Mussel Monger & Oyster Bar. Armed with a mere R800 as start-up capital, resilience and dream, we began our journey as a team to build a company together that celebrates and empowers all who work in it. We empower our people, our oceans and nature and look for sustainable solutions to food sources purveying these remarkable jewels of the Capes Southern Ocean, live oysters & mussels.
The Team
Today The MY PLACE Group, holding company of The Mussel Monger & Oyster Bar employs 35 crew strong and counting with an additional 65 crew indirectly supported via our farms. We’re on a mission to change the way people think about employment and work with crew by making them apart of the bigger company picture and privy to our joint goals and dreams as a team.
What We Offer
Trust! We are the only specialist company in Southern Africa with a key focus in purveying the highest grade of live oysters & mussels available to South Africans. Our sustainably farmed produce is hauled from the icy depths of our Saldanha Bay farms every Friday morning and delivered live and directly to your door, same day.
By choosing to consume these two jewels from the ocean, you’re making a conscious decision to assist mother nature in restoring her fish stocks and the sensitive eco systems and patterns which govern our existence. Mussels and oysters are amongst the most sustainable food sources in the world.

Weekly same day deliveries - We deliver daily Monday to Friday with The Courier Guy provided your order is placed by 9am
In Store Collection - Orders can be placed online and collected same day, Monday to Sunday from our store in Sea Point at 30 Regent Road, at The Mojo Market, 11am till 9pm
Orders close - At 9am same day T&C’s apply to areas outside of Cape Town, please click below for more info
Deliveries - Take place daily, Monday to Friday same day between 1pm and 6pm with The Courier Guy and tracking details are provided after your order placement

I visited Cape Town while on a kitesurfari in Jan 2020, staying in the area of SeaPoint so I could be close to nightlife. The Mussel Monger is located inside... read more Mojo Market which is basically an elaborate food court of independent restaurants and food vendors all under one roof. Overall it was great and was my favorite spot to eat both within Mojo Market and in the area.
Location/Ambiance: Great! It is located on one of the main thoroughfares in SeaPoint inside a popular dining area. Ambiance is shared with the rest of the Mojo Market although you get a great view of the stage for live entertainment. Its basically a bar counter with the bartender/cook right in front of you; they cook the food right there at the bar. Its sort of in a corner of the market so you will not get jostled by others.
Food: Great seafood specials on Mussels and good selection of Bubbly/Wine. Their signature dish is awesome!
Value: Great - the food taste you get / the price you pay is high. 300 ZAR gets you a solid meal and a couple of glasses of tasty wine.
Service: Good - the manager will totally work with you when she is taking care of you. If she is not there the staff are still friendly but not as on the ball. Not a complaint so much as a delineation of great service when the manager there and simply mediocre when she turns her back.
Overall: if you are in this area and are in the mood for seafood I highly recommend you try this establishment! The only weird thing is they do not accept cash - so make sure you have any card type payment ready to fo before ordering.

That lady was Co operative she offered me to try two as trial and if I like, I can go for some more. Good idea
The bar is kind of a real bar with bar table kindbof sitting. Service was good and the lady took special care of me. She served the trial and taught me how to it. Wowbit was amazing. I loved it and order some more. Lady gave me different methods and idea to consume it. She evern rook my VDO.
Overall, I loved oysters and amazing experience at this Bar..I will come again atvthe same place.

Kyle’s Story
You may notice I refer to “we” quite often. During the early stages it was just me as a shareholder, but “we” refers to the collective of the team. I believe that we all work for the company and our goal is to uplift and grow it and by doing so, “we” uplift everyone that works in the company and that everyone ultimately gets to benefit from its success though security and a passion to grow and be a part of something bigger than themselves.
