Our remarkable Story
Our story began in 2015 when we founded The MY PLACE GROUP and subsequently our most successful brand, The Mussel Monger & Oyster Bar. Armed with a mere R800 as start-up capital, resilience and dream, we began our journey as a team to build a company together that celebrates and empowers all who work in it. We empower our people, our oceans and nature and look for sustainable solutions to food sources purveying these remarkable jewels of the Capes Southern Ocean, live oysters & mussels.
The Team
Today The MY PLACE Group, holding company of The Mussel Monger & Oyster Bar employs 35 crew strong and counting with an additional 65 crew indirectly supported via our farms. We’re on a mission to change the way people think about employment and work with crew by making them apart of the bigger company picture and privy to our joint goals and dreams as a team.
What We Offer
Trust! We are the only specialist company in Southern Africa with a key focus in purveying the highest grade of live oysters & mussels available to South Africans. Our sustainably farmed produce is hauled from the icy depths of our Saldanha Bay farms every Friday morning and delivered live and directly to your door, same day.

By choosing to consume these two jewels from the ocean, you’re making a conscious decision to assist mother nature in restoring her fish stocks and the sensitive eco systems and patterns which govern our existence. Mussels and oysters are amongst the most sustainable food sources in the world.
Delivery / Collection Options
NOTE: Fridays will always be your cheapest and freshest delivery option as group deliveries are performed every Friday.
For clients needing produce on demand for every other day of the week, we have introduced the following two options.
On Demand Delivery - Operated with our logistics partner PICUP, premiums are calculated upon checkout.
In-Store Collection - Orders placed online and collected from our Sea Point outlet, over the counter.
Orders close at 3pm for next day delivery and collection.
Deliveries take place between 9am and 5pm.

Kyle’s Story
You may notice I refer to “we” quite often. During the early stages it was just me as a shareholder, but “we” refers to the collective of the team. I believe that we all work for the company and our goal is to uplift and grow it and by doing so, “we” uplift everyone that works in the company and that everyone ultimately gets to benefit from its success though security and a passion to grow and be a part of something bigger than themselves.
